“If you could have given yourself one piece of advice before this trip what would it have been?”
My sweet, unknowing Carson, you have much to learn about traveling so far from home for such an extended period of time. While I commend you for all of your preparation efforts, there is definitely a lot to be learned moving forward. If I were to give you one piece of advice before this trip it would be this: go on this trip for you and only you, and don’t let anyone else stop that from happening.
There were many times I fell into a spiral of trying to please others and forgetting the independence I hoped to gain by taking this leap of faith. I partially failed myself in the latter regard. I should have taken more time for myself, meditated more on the things I wanted to learn, and made more conscious efforts to understand why I wanted to go on the trip in the first place. I let outside factors stress me out, even though they were thousands of miles away. Don’t be afraid of letting people down because in doing so you may let yourself down. You can live for yourself (and only yourself) and not feel guilty for it.
Bon voyage,
Carson
